The Best Face Moisturizer: 3 Picks for Day, Night and Light Hydration
A daily ceramide cream, a night lotion and a lightweight cream for under makeup. Here is what each listing says, and where it is unclear.
Read the guideA versatile everyday serum, a gentle option for reactive skin and a 20% formula. Here is what each listing says.

The best vitamin C serum for face depends on your skin, because these serums are not interchangeable. Naturium and Obagi name L-ascorbic acid, Vanicream uses an unnamed derivative it calls gentle, and only Obagi states a strength.
So we picked three serums for three kinds of skin. We only state what each listing says about its formula — if a listing does not give a percentage or name its vitamin C, neither do we.

We reviewed Amazon's Beauty department for vitamin C serums for face and set aside sponsored placements. We opened the best-rated listings from recognizable skincare brands and kept the ones sold by Amazon.com or by the brand itself. We rejected a popular listing sold by a third party with non-US product wording.
Pair your serum with the rest of your routine: our face moisturizer picks finish it off, and our concealer guide covers what goes on after skincare.

Naturium's serum pairs a stabilized L-ascorbic acid complex with sodium ascorbyl phosphate, a fruit blend, sodium hyaluronate and tocopheryl acetate, according to the listing — and it carries 4.6 stars from more than eight thousand ratings.
It is designed for morning and night use: Naturium says to apply it to clean skin, then follow with moisturizer and daily sun protection. The brand says it was developed for sensitive, dry and combination skin and advises a patch test first.
Best for: a twice-daily vitamin C step; Naturium says it was developed for sensitive, dry and combination skin.

Vanicream built this serum for people who have found traditional vitamin C too harsh. The listing says it uses a gentle vitamin C derivative, packaged in an airless pump, that is less likely to oxidize or change color, and the description adds ceramides.
It is unscented, and Vanicream lists what it leaves out: gluten, fragrance, dye, lanolin, parabens, formaldehyde releasers, botanical extracts and essential oils. The brand calls it non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested.
Best for: sensitive or reactive skin that has struggled with other vitamin C serums, by Vanicream's description.

If you are looking specifically for a high-strength formula, Obagi Medical's listing states a concentrated 20% L-ascorbic acid — the only strength stated by any of our three picks. It holds 4.5 stars from more than two thousand ratings.
Obagi's listing says it moisturizes and hydrates skin to improve texture and tone. The listing is unclear on skin type, though: the page title says normal to oily skin, while a bullet says it suits dry, sensitive or reactive skin.
Best for: anyone specifically looking for a stated 20% L-ascorbic acid formula.

Figures are taken from each Amazon listing on October 1, 2026. Ratings change over time.
If a listing names its form of vitamin C, as Naturium and Obagi do, you know what you are getting. Vanicream's names only a "derivative."
Obagi states 20%. Naturium and Vanicream do not state a percentage. Do not assume a number a listing will not give you.
Vanicream says its derivative, packaged in an airless pump, is less likely to oxidize or change color.
If your skin is sensitive, start here: Vanicream builds its whole listing around it; Naturium advises a patch test.
Naturium says to apply its serum to clean skin morning and night, then follow with moisturizer and daily sun protection. Vanicream says once or twice daily, under sunscreen in the morning or moisturizer in the evening.
Vanicream's is built for it: the listing describes a gentle derivative and an unscented formula with no fragrance, dye, parabens or essential oils. Naturium says its serum was also developed for sensitive, dry and combination skin.
Obagi Professional-C is the only one whose listing states a strength — 20% L-ascorbic acid. The other two listings do not give a percentage.
Naturium's listing advises a patch test prior to use.
Its page title says normal to oily skin, while one bullet says the serum suits dry, sensitive or reactive skin. We report both because the listing says both.
